{"id":811,"date":"2009-09-30T16:54:18","date_gmt":"2009-09-30T22:54:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/workingknowledge.com\/blog\/?p=811"},"modified":"2023-03-02T21:28:36","modified_gmt":"2023-03-03T03:28:36","slug":"social-media-at-the-world-business-forum","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.workingknowledge.com\/blog\/social-media-at-the-world-business-forum\/","title":{"rendered":"Social Media at the World Business Forum"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Point<\/strong>: Extend the conversation of a conference beyond its four walls<\/p>\n<p><strong>Story<\/strong>: Open innovation, crowdsourcing, and new product development all depend on expanding the conversation from a narrowly defined in-group of people to broader, more inclusive global participation.\u00a0 The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wbfny.com\">World Business Forum<\/a>, for example, is already the largest conference of senior executives in the US. But <a href=\"http:\/\/us.hsmglobal.com\/interior\/index.php?idCMSIdioma=1\">HSMAmericas<\/a>, creators of the World Business Forum, wanted to extend the conversation beyond the walls of the conference&#8217;s Radio City Music Hall location. They&#8217;re doing this through the <a href=\"http:\/\/us.hsmglobal.com\/contenidos\/wbf09-bloggers-hub.html\">Bloggers Hub<\/a>, a concept which they pioneered with sponsor<a href=\"http:\/\/www.pbconnect.com\/\"> <\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/bit.ly\/PUNu9\">Pitney Bowes<\/a> at the <a href=\"http:\/\/us.hsmglobal.com\/contenidos\/wifhome.html?idCMSPortal=19&amp;idCMSIdioma=1\">World Innovation Forum<\/a> in May.<\/p>\n<p>First, HSMAmericas created the infrastructure to\u00a0support a global conversation about the conference. \u00a0With\u00a0the aid of hub\u00a0sponsors <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ibm.com\/ibm\/ideasfromibm\/us\/smartplanet\/index.shtml?ca=agus_brsplp-20081111&amp;me=banner&amp;met=splogos&amp;re=wbf&amp;s_tact=106aw01w&amp;cm_mmc=agus_brsplp-20081111-106aw01w-_-b-_-splogos-_-wbf\">IBM<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.execunet.com\/\">ExecuNet<\/a>, they wired a block of\u00a0front &amp; center reserved seating on the mezzanine at Radio City Music Hall. \u00a0The hub space includes ample power outlets and\u00a0high-speed internet access.<\/p>\n<p>Second,\u00a0HSMAmericas invited a diversity of some of the best business bloggers to participate. (See categorized list below.)\u00a0The featured bloggers will be blogging and tweeting the conference in real time as well as posting articles and interacting in conversations during and after the event. \u00a0Each blogger brings his or her own spin and segment of the global audience. \u00a0Some bloggers, like me, emphasize innovation. Others emphasize economic issues,\u00a0entrepreneurship, technology, etc.\u00a0This ensures that the conference reaches a wide variety of global participants and extends the conversion along multiple dimensions of specialization.<\/p>\n<p>Third,\u00a0HSMAmericas created\u00a0coordinated points of contact and content access. This\u00a0includes\u00a0a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.facebook.com\/WorldBusinessForum\">Facebook page,<\/a> a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/groups?gid=161521&amp;trk=myg_ugrp_ovr\">LinkedIn group<\/a>, and a Twitter hashtag. Bloggers will be using the <a href=\"http:\/\/search.twitter.com\/search?q=&amp;ands=&amp;phrase=&amp;ors=&amp;nots=&amp;tag=wbf09&amp;lang=en&amp;from=&amp;to=&amp;ref=&amp;near=&amp;within=15&amp;units=mi&amp;since=&amp;until=&amp;rpp=10\">#wbf09 hashtag<\/a> on their real-time updates of the conference.<\/p>\n<p>For example, anyone &#8212; executives, managers, entrepreneurs and all interested parties &#8212; can participate in the action of the Forum in real time by following the <a href=\"http:\/\/http:\/\/search.twitter.com\/search?q=&amp;ands=&amp;phrase=&amp;ors=&amp;nots=&amp;tag=wbf09&amp;lang=en&amp;from=&amp;to=&amp;ref=&amp;near=&amp;within=15&amp;units=mi&amp;since=&amp;until=&amp;rpp=10\">#wbf09 hashtag <\/a>on Twitter.\u00a0 Bloggers will be using the <a href=\"http:\/\/search.twitter.com\/search?q=&amp;ands=&amp;phrase=&amp;ors=&amp;nots=&amp;tag=wbf09&amp;lang=en&amp;from=&amp;to=&amp;ref=&amp;near=&amp;within=15&amp;units=mi&amp;since=&amp;until=&amp;rpp=10\">#wbf09 hashtag<\/a> on their real-time updates of the conference.\u00a0 They will append #wbf09 not only to their updates from the Forum\u00a0 but also to conversations they have with anyone using the #wbf09 tag. To join in, simply use the #wbf09 tag in your tweet. You can pose a question, share an opinion, or reply to anyone directly. To reach a specific blogger, just start your tweet with their Twitter ID.\u00a0 (For example, to reach me, simply start your tweet with @andreameyer and use the #wbf09. I&#8217;ll see it and reply.)\u00a0 Including #wbf09 in any of your tweets will make it visible to anyone participating in the conversation.<\/p>\n<p>During the time of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wifny.com\">World Innovation Forum<\/a> (May 4-13), for instance, 4514 tweets mentioned #wif09.
